Security in Practice

2006-12-13

Beijing, China - 13 Dec. 2006 “Security in Practice” was the concise but impressive motto of atsec information security, a global IT security consulting company, at the CINS (China International Network Security Technology & Application Exhibition) 2006 from December 11-13.

The CINS attracted thousands of visitors including IT security managers, security experts, product developers, researchers and government officials. Professional consulting services have been receiving more and more attention in China, and atsec is one of the leading IT security consulting companies in the world. Following 5+ years of growth in Europe and the U.S., atsec established its China branch in 2006 to provide professional and independent consulting services in China.

One important business focus for atsec is ISMS (Information Security Management System) consulting. Many organizations in China, especially in the telecommunication, finance, and manufacturing sectors, have realized the importance of implementing an ISMS based on the ISO/IEC 27000 series of standards. atsec has abundant global experience in ISMS consulting, including successful projects with leading companies like Vodafone, Siemens, and Swisscom.

Professor Ted Humphreys, the internationally-recognized father of the ISO/IEC ISMS standards, came to China to attend and give a keynote talk at the UK-China ISMS Conference. In a conversation with atsec consultants, Mr. Humphreys expressed his belief that ISMS implementation will develop rapidly across Asia and in particularly in China.

Ted Humphreys & Yan Liu discussed ISMS issues in China

“Clearly, there is a need for a professional, independent provider of consulting services on ISMS implementation in China. atsec brings global IT security expertise and ISO/IEC 27001 experience, as well as an international reputation for integrity, to China,” Yan Liu, the senior consultant and chief representative of atsec’s Beijing representative office said. “In addition to providing ISO/IEC 27001 consulting services, atsec also provides product evaluation services based on related IT security standards like ISO/IEC 15408 (Common Criteria) and FIPS 140-2. In expanding its service offerings in China, atsec will always maintain the global principle that has guided its growth from the beginning: stay focused on independent information security consultancy.”

Relevant to atsec’s Common Criteria (CC) evaluation services, during the CINS conference, atsec consultants discussed the company’s successful CC evaluations under the U.S. NIAP and German BSI schemes, focusing on three recent successful projects that led to certification of Red Hat Linux 4 Update 2 at EAL3, IBM z/OS V1R7 at EAL4+, and IBM PR/SM LPAR for z9-109 at EAL5.

Andreas Fabis, atsec marketing director, commented: “atsec has been involved in shaping the future of international IT security standards for many years. If the opportunity should arise for us to offer the benefit of that experience to those engaged in creating and implementing IT security standards in China, we would welcome that interesting and challenging opportunity.”

During recent conference opportunities in China and global, atsec drew on its wide-ranging experience in many other areas of interest in IT security, including risk management, penetration testing, security audits, and computer forensics.
