atsec tests Pierson MIIKOO cryptographic algorithms

2010-11-12

Beijing China – Recently, atsec information security tested the cryptographic algorithms implemented in the MIIKOO cryptographic module provided by Pierson Capital Technology LLC (PCT). The module implements 5 FIPS Approved cryptographic algorithms, all validated under the Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP) by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This is a great achievement for PCT as it completes a significant milestone in the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) testing process underway for MIIKOO.

The NIST certification validates that the algorithms in MIIKOO have been implemented according to the rigorous CAVP guidelines required by this institute. Frank Psaila, General Manager of Pierson Capital Technology LLC., notes: “our commitment and expertise in providing a secure environment for our high profile clients has been the motivation behind all the effort to get us through this certification process. We at PCT believe that our leading edge technology is a pioneer in providing a simple, affordable and yet user-friendly solution at all levels of the security chain.”

Cryptographic algorithm validation is a prerequisite for testing a cryptographic module’s conformance to the FIPS 140-2 standard. All of the tests must be conducted by third-party laboratories that are accredited as Cryptographic Module Testing (CMT) laboratories. atsec information security, an accredited CMT laboratory, was a natural choice for Pierson, as atsec has a proven track of global experience in information security evaluation and testing of IT security related products. Steve Weingart, atsec principal consultant and tester for this project, notes: “By going through the process of independent testing and validation of their cryptographic algorithm implementations, Pierson has shown that they are committed to meeting a higher quality and interoperability standard for their products. Now that the cryptographic algorithm tests are completed, we are continuing to move forward on the FIPS 140-2 conformance testing and looking forward to a successful validation.”

The certificate numbers, product information and vendor information can be found on the validation list of the CAVP’s official website at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cavp/validation.html.
